Reading/Language Arts

The Islamic Academy of Riverside uses the McGraw-Hill Wonders Reading program. The program integrates reading fluency, reading comprehension, vocabulary development, language arts, and writing. Wonders is designed to foster a love of reading in all children. By providing a comprehensive set of connected resources for all learners in grades K–6, Wonders offers educators the ability to adapt instruction with confidence as students grow. Our focus on teaching the whole child—and every child—prepares students to be lifelong learners and critical thinkers.


Mathematics

Built around the Standards for Mathematical Practices, McGraw-Hill My Math engages students with the focus, coherence and rigor required by state standards.

McGraw-Hill My Math can help challenge your students in a way that inspires them to embrace the power of mathematics through real-world applications and experience just how fun math success can be. By weaving the three components of rigor---conceptual understanding, procedural skill and fluency, and application. McGraw-Hill My Math enables your students to progress student toward a higher level of achievement and steadily grow their math confidence.


Social Studies

IAR uses the McGraw-Hill Networks and Discovering Our Past social studies curriculum.

McGraw-Hill Discovering Our Past connects today's students to the stories of our past with the first truly integrated print and digital middle school world history curriculum grounded in solid pedagogy with a full suite of teaching and learning tools for a flexible, customized learning experience.
Both programs, have a rigorous, age-appropriate content that highlights diverse perspectives, integrate primary sources, and make relevant connections to bring the subject area to life, while dynamic digital resources draw students in.

Teachers at IAR use a project-based and inquiry approach to teaching social studies that utilizes activities that ignite curiosity and facilitate critical thinking, teaching students how to analyze sources, cite evidence, and take informed action.


Science

The McGraw-Hill Science curriculum used at IAR is designed to help spark students’ curiosity and empower them to ask more questions, think more critically, and generate innovative ideas. Students bring solutions to everyday challenges through inquiry-based, hands-on investigations of real-world phenomena.

The curriculum is built with the proven 5E instructional framework that provides an in-depth, collaborative, evidence-based, and project-based learning experience to help you put your K–8 students on the path to career and college readiness.


Quran and Islamic Studies

Our Quran and Islamic Studies program is designed to educate your child about the fundamentals of Islamic knowledge and enable them to properly implement that knowledge as American-Muslim youth in America. Our aim is to nurture out students into proud, knowledgeable, practicing Muslims who are fully confident in their faith and who hold firmly to the values of our religion in all aspects of their lives.

Our Islamic Studies curriculum focuses on aqeedah and beliefs, character and manners, acts of worship, Islamic identity and sense of purpose, as well as du’as and etiquettes. We use a variety of resources in order to teach these fundamental concepts. The resources we use include but are not limited to the Holy Quran and tafseer, seerah of the Prophet (pbuh), the stories of the companions, and variety of other activities and discussions.


Arabic

IAR has adopted the “I Learn Arabic” curriculum for Arabic instruction. The program is a simple yet very effective method that first helps our students in their introduction to the Arabic language, and later, it meets the needs of children learning Arabic as a foreign language. The “I Learn Arabic” curriculum is scaffold progressively to the rhythm of the child, in order, to familiarize him/her with the sonorities of the Arabic language, aid in the acquisition of linguistic bases, and in the fundamentals of the Arabic sentence structure.


Art

IAR uses the Meet the Masters Art curriculum. Meet the Masters has been providing interactive, multi-media art education to school students worldwide. As California’s leading art program, Meet the Masters introduces the art techniques of such artists as, Monet, Picasso, Van Gogh, and 35 other esteemed artists.


Physical Education

Physical Education is an important component of each student’s school experience.  Physical wellness and psychomotor skills are developed through a variety of activities.  As our students grow, it is important for them to acquire and refine skills that will enhance their quality of life through physical activity and healthy habits

Physical Education program at IAR is based upon the acquisition of knowledge and skills that are the foundation for engaging in physical activity. Our mission is to empower all students to sustain regular, lifelong physical activity as a foundation for a healthy, productive and fulfilling life.
